Founded on October 16, 2008, the association is registered as "European Network of Fibromyalgia Associations", abbreviated "ENFA". ENFA is incorporated as an international non-profit-making association organised under the laws of Belgium, more particularly Title III of the Law of 27 June 1921 on non-profit-making associations, international non-profit-making associations and foundations (the Law). Object As an international non-profit-making association with an international purpose, ENFA is a non-commercial, politically independent and non denominational association of Fibromyalgia patient associations and support groups working in close consultation with a national or regional Fibromyalgia association in a member country.
Purpose The purpose of ENFA is to gather and disseminate information about Fibromyalgia through ENFA, with a view to establishing contacts and making suggestions on how to heighten awareness of the illness among the public, the business community, the medical profession and politics. Further, ENFA aims to forge links between the medical profession and research institutes working with Fibromyalgia in the individual member countries. The activities of ENFA extend to the member countries. In particular, ENFA aims the set-up of national and/or regional centers and care centers (self help groups) in the various member countries to care for sufferers.
Mission ENFA's mission is to conquer the myths and misunderstandings around Fibromyalgia. In order to do so, ENFA will help collectively push forward boundaries which currently exist in understanding, experiencing, and treating Fibromyalgia. As such, and by establishing ENFA, ENFA aims to provide Fibromyalgia with the recognition it deserves across Europe as an illness in its own right.
The official language of ENFA for legal purposes is Dutch. English is the working language.
